Here comes cricket…

After a long long long wait the cricket is finally set to return. Almost all of our team have spent the last few weeks making sure we are ready to return to the field whenever the time came and at last the wait is almost over.

On Saturday 18th July the Godber Foundation team will be finally be back doing what we enjoy most and playing for our respective clubs.

There have been few changes for 2020 though so we thought we would share our clubs and where you are likely to be able to see us pop up if you so wished.

Beverley Town Cricket Club – Joey Franklin and Matty Saint are still with the club but are joined by the returning Stew Scott. You could see them in any team across the four I would imagine but chances are one will be playing at home for each of the 9 weeks to come.

Cherry Burton Cricket Club – Chris Wilson remains part of the club who the foundation continue to sponsor it looks like the club will be very competitive within the league they have been placed so we look forward to telling you about an interesting season for the club.

And finally myself… transferring against the grain out to South Holderness a few trips in and around Beverley each will be a big test.

I would just like to end with a reminder just how amazing village and club level cricket really is. It has been a very testing year for clubs that rely almost exclusively on volunteers who give up their own time to drive forward things they are passionte about.

We are no different and would like to offer our support to any club in need over the coming 18 months which we know will be make or break for a lot of the teams we visit, represent and have great relationships with.

We can help you with options to help you raise funds, find members and just get 11 players out on a saturday where we can so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

The long awaited return

After a long period away from updating the website WE ARE BACK.

2019 has been an extremely busy year for everyone involved with the Godber Foundation but with time returning we are looking to be Back Stronger!

On the field both of Cherry Burtons teams currently are in the midst of Promotion battles, the first off the back of a fantastic performance against Patrington scoring 299 and restricting the hosts to 80 and the seconds having beaten Skirlaugh in a very tightly fought game.

Watch this space for more updates as we see these battles continue… next up for the First team is the visit of Beverley Town which is always to look for when fixtures come out in March. We welcome anyone who wants to come down and support this Saturday at the meadows, players will be at the ground from 11 and more than happy to help anyone who wants to join in a training session before the game.

Beyond this we have the Ash’s returning for 2019 on the  18th August. Entries for teams closes on Sunday 11th August at 12:00 this year entries cost £36 with BBQ, Bouncy Castle and lots of cricket available for everyone throughout the day.

Merry Christm-Ash One and All

Just want to say a massive thank you to everybody who came or donated last night for The Godber Foundation Christmas Party at the Bay Horse in Cherry Burton.

It was a very successful event and we managed to raise over £1000.

First off during the evening was a short presentation from Stew Scott who awarded trophies to members of Cherry Burton CC.

First player of the year- Sam Sharp

Seconds player of the year- Nathan

Most improved- jack sharp

Midweek player of the year- Jamie Elliot

Performance of the year- Sam Sharp vs Driff

Chairman’s award- Paul Ellis for 2 hundreds in a season and Pete Laycock for doing the pitch.

We also had Young player of the year Owen Andrews who only started playing this year thanks to sessions put on by TGF.

Following from that we had our raffle, there was lots on offer, £250 Mot from Beverley Motors, £50 Hugh Rice Voucher, vouchers for a photo shoot and photograph from La Lumiere, Body Shop Hampers and much more! After that we went on to the auction where we had special items up for grabs such as Cricket Gear and a ‘Joe Cole’ signed T-shirt.

Then the karaoke began which everyone really got stuck into including our very own answer to the evergreen Wagner in Dave Heath.

From all of us at The Godber Foundation we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support and we all hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year, Ashley would be so proud! ❤️

The Ash’s 2018

Following the hugely successful launch of The Ash’s last year, it was The Godber Foundation’s privilege to host the 2018 edition at Cherry Burton CC on Sunday 19th August 2018.

The competition saw nine teams, comprised of varying ages and abilities, take to the field, watched on by family and friends. Games were played in a brilliant spirit throughout the day and the competition saw plenty of drama.
In Group A, returning 2017 Ash’s winners Godber’s All Stars led the way, with high quality cricket, winning all 3 of their matches. The remaining sides in the group competed in incredibly close matches, however it was Godber’s Old Boys who narrowly edged Cherry Burton 2nd XI in a winner takes all final group match, helped largely by some huge hitting by Stew Scott.
Group B saw Fine Legs, led by the powerful Paul Ellis take top spot, but it was the runners-up that stole the headlines as The Godber Foundation Academy produced some scintillating cricket to progress to the semi-finals. To put it in perspective, excluding TGF coaches David and Jamie, the remaining members of the team were aged from 7-14, many playing their first ever competitive cricket. The performances of all of the team were testament to their hard work at the Saturday morning coaching sessions, however a special mention must go to 9 year old Dan Sutcliffe who was awarded Player of the Tournament due to some huge six hitting.
The semi-finals saw Fine Legs progress against Godber’s Old Boys and The Godber Foundation Academy fall just short of a challenging total set by Godber’s All Stars.
The final was played in front of a bumper crowd, with the vast majority of the teams and supporters staying following their elimination. Fine Legs had displayed some powerful batting throughout the day, but the quality of Godber’s All Stars shone through with some exceptional bowling restricting Fine Legs to their lowest total of the day. Godber’s All Stars then chased the total to seal a second consecutive victory and round of a brilliant day of cricket.
Once again, huge thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to a fantastic day. A special mention to those who helped with the running of the day, particularly David Butt who’s hard work ensured the day ran smoothly.
