On Sunday 20th August the first ever Ash’s was held. 10 teams battled it out to be the first recipients of the Ashley Godber Memorial trophy. After a calamitous group stage for the three home sides representing Cherry Burton CC, with Jib CC, 100%myteamonpaper and TeamGoWell crashing out early on, Godbers All Stars, Cherry Burton FC, Godbers Old Boys and AFC Walkington were left to fight out the Semi Finals.

Despite some fantastic cricket being on show from both football sides we saw the perfect final. Godbers All Stars (captained by James Windeatt) and Godbers Old Boys (led by Stewart Scott) were left to play out the final.

James Windeatt and his Godbers All Stars held on in a tight final to lift the trophy at the end of  a fantastic day where on the balance of play bowlers had the upper hand. Only 31 maximums where hit through the day in 230 overs of cricket suggesting we either need to put a bit more effort in to pitch preparation next year or perhaps the power hitting batsmen of Cherry Burton CC should take it easier on the night before next year.
